18 Dec. 2007 -- No-gi : arm bar
Instructor : Seph S.
Focused mainly on hip movements to properly execute arm bar.
Practised transition to high guard in the instance of Op standing up in guard, then high guard transition to arm bar, to sweep.
Then worked on a technique for breaking Op's grip when he tries to defend against arm bar by under hooking your leg that is pinning his head.
I refrained from sparring.

13 Dec. 2007 -- Jiu jitsu : lapel chokes from mount
Instructor : Seph
emphasis on proper base. also worked on transition to S-mount if Op defends choke. Learned a detail : lean to side of which ever arm is the top arm of choke--this creates greater tension. Also learned "crow bar" which is a shoulder locking technique that can be used to break Op's grip if he's defending against your arm bar.

12 Dec. 2007 -- Jiu jitsu (Gi) : chokes with Op in turtle position
Instructor : Shin
First choke involved gripping lapel under Op (in turtle) while gripping collar above his neck, planting knee by his head and rolling him to mount to finish lapel choke.
Next was sinking inside knee deep into Op's rib cage and stepping over with outside leg to place calf against Op's neck, then lowering to knee of stepped over leg to close the space, then rolling to shoulder to close the triangle choke. This one was very difficult.

11 Dec. 2007 -- No-gi : half guard
Instructor : Seph
Concentrated heavily on extending/floating Op in half guard, escaping out back door to take down or back take, or switching back to take leg, to sweep. Floating Op has to do with extending his locked leg and destabilizing his base. You're basically spiral riding the Op's leg. Keep grips low on Op for better leverage and positioning.
Postional sparring : beginning in half guard

6 Dec. 2007 -- No-gi
Instructor : Seph
Half guard work. Starting from under Op's side mount, let him try to gain full mount, as this happens switch to half guard. Always keep hips facing Op even if upper body is flattened out. The hips are like cross hairs, aim them where you want to go and/or where you wish to attack.
